Mix candied fruit with 2 tablespoons rum. Soak gelatin in cold water. Beat egg yolks with remaining rum and powdered sugar until mixture is almost white.
Dissolve gelatine dripping wet over mild heat and stir into egg yolk mixture. Stir in fruit. Separately, beat egg whites and cream until stiff and fold in.
Refrigerate dessert for at least 1 hour. Then form dumplings with 2 teaspoons. Serve decorated with cherries.
