For the dough, cream the fat and gradually add the sifted powdered sugar, vanilla sugar, orange zest and spices. Stir in 2/3 of the flour mixed with cornstarch and baking powder by the tablespoonful. Knead in the rest of the flour. If the dough sticks, chill it for a while.
Form the dough into rolls about 2.5 cm in diameter. Cut slices about 0.5 cm thick, place a mocha bean on each slice, pull the dough over it, form balls and place them on a greased or parchment-lined baking sheet.
Preheat the oven (gas: level 2 – 3, fan oven: 175 – 180 degrees, top/bottom heat: 200 degrees) and bake the cookies for about 15 min. Stir the ingredients for the icing together until a smooth mixture is formed. Brush the curved side of the cookies with the icing and sprinkle with hail sugar.
