Prick the bratwursts, fry in a little fat until golden, but not quite done. Remove the sausages from the pan. In the same pan, sauté the onion until translucent.

Deglaze with beer and malt beer. Turn down to the lowest heat. Tear the gravy cake into small pieces, add juniper berries and bay leaves. Continue to simmer until the gravy cake has dissolved, stirring constantly. Pour the sauce through a strainer into another pot (frying pan).

Season to taste with salt and pepper. Add the sausages to the sauce and let them finish cooking.

Tastes best with fried potatoes or mashed potatoes, but also with blue or white cabbage.
